Every vote has been counted, and It’s time to announce our winners! Special thanks to everyone who voted! This is truly our favorite time of the year, and having you all along for the ride makes it that much more special.

Enough mushy stuff. Let get to the fun part. Your winners of the 2023 Tommy Awards are:

The 2023 Tommy Legacy Award

If you’re confused as to why a film in 2018 just won an award for 2023, you’re certainly not alone. Every year, our dearest CineBoi Tom (who these awards are named for) chooses a film or TV show from the past that he finally got around to in 2023 and loved. Tom loves to take his time, but his winners are never wrong.

Congratulations to Alex Garland, Natalie Portman and the rest of the cast & crew of ‘Annihilation’.

Best Actress of 2023

Fresh off her Golden Globe win Sunday night, Ayo Edebiri is our winner for actress of the year. Is a Tommy more prestigious than a Golden Globe? Probably not but at least you don’t have to sit through a Jo Koy monologue…shots fired. Edebiri was EVERYWHERE this year, but truly what put her over the top was her supporting performance in ‘The Bear’

This is Ayo Edebiri’s first nomination and first win.

Best Actor of 2023

Another Golden Globe winner from Sunday walks away with his first Tommy Awards as well. He’s patiently waited through 20 years of supporting roles in Christopher Nolan films to finally get the lead and he absolutely crushed it. Perhaps the single best performance by any actor for 2023. I think he can confidently look forward to bringing home the Oscar come March.

This is Cillian Murphy’s first nomination and first win.

Best TV Show of 2023

Honestly, we thought ‘Succession’ in it’s last year was going to take the cake, but ‘The Bear’ snuck in from behind and took the Tommy. It might even be good enough to fill the ‘Succession’ sized hole in my heart. I guess this makes up for us not including in the vote for last year’s Tommy’s.

Congrats to the cast & crew!

Best Movie of 2023

Are you really that surprised? Yah, ‘Barbie’ got a lot of the vote this year, but let’s face it, Christopher Nolan is among everyone’s favorite directors and this is his magnum opus. It’s truly deserving of this prestigious award.

‘Equalizer III’ comes out this week, and it’s safe to say that some of here at Korked Bats are as hard as diamond in an ice storm.

This week, in honor of it’s release, we had a little Denzel Washington Movie Draft on the latest episode of The CineBoiz Podcast.

Now we tweaked the rules slightly from our typical format. We each got 4 picks each, but we couldn’t pick more than one Denzel movie per decade.

Here were the results:

KENNY: Glory (1980’s); American Gangster (2000’s); The Hurricane (1990’s); Book of Eli (2010’s)

TOM: Training Day (2000’s); The Pelican Brief (1990’s); Flight (2010’s); Power (1980’s)

KEVIN: Remember the Titans (2000’s); Courage Under Fire (1990’s); Fences (2010’s); The Little Things (2020’s)

MOB: Malcolm X (1990’s); Man on Fire (2000’s); The Equalizer (2010’s); The Tragedy of Macbeth (2020’s)

Be sure to check out the latest episode of The CineBoiz Podcast!!!

You can find it anywhere podcasts are found or simply watch below on the Korked Bats YouTube Page. Be sure to let us know who you think won in the YT comments or on social media!

Here it is, tell us what you think!

We know, we know, and we hear you….’Legend’ should have been higher, but sacrifices had to be made.

Also, if you’re wondering how this tier-list was decided upon, check out the latest episode of The CineBoiz Podcast below on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts! WARNING: Shocking personal revelations are made—You may not look at us the same.

The post This is the DENIFITIVE Cruise-Movie Tier-List. Don’t Look Anywhere Else. appeared first on Korked Bats.

The 1980’s was the best decade for action-movies. FULL STOP. Don’t even try to argue with or convince us otherwise. The only unfortunate part of the 80s you may ask? The lack of CGI effects and technical innovation. So many properties and IPs were simply avoided because there didn’t seem to be a way to produce them in an analog world. That’s why we have such an influx of superhero movies and TV shows today–cuz we can actually make them.

That’s a damn shame if you ask us.

Sure we have all the technical know-how now and fancy computer do-dads…but you know what we don’t have? That f**kin COLD-WAR ATTITUDE BAYBAY!!! That’s why us here at Korked Bats/The CineBoiz decided to do a fantasy recasting of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ for our favorite decade. Be sure to let us know what you think!

Gamora/Michelle Pfeiffer

What a solid start. Yah we know. Michelle Pfeiffer is THE choice to take on the this role. From the personality all the way down to her physical appearance and facial structure…it’s a near perfect fit. Just slap on a coat of green paint and you have your 1980’s Gamora.

Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura/Drax the Destroyer

If you google “80’s beefcake” chances are you’re gonna find some stuff you didn’t mean to find–and amongst all of that you will likely see some photos of Governor Ventura himself. Jesse has the “wrestler turned actor” resume that has worked so well for Drax in this decade. Once again, get out the body paint, and rub the man down…we’ve found our Drax.

Sigourney Weaver/Nebula

We can hear you all now: “Man, you guys are nailing it.”

Three things we know for sure about Sigourney Weaver: She looks good bald, she looks good in blue, and she’s a certified badass. Easy casting decision for Nebula. NEXT.

Kurt Russell/Peter Quill (Star-Lord)

Yah, we know. We outdid ourselves with this casting. I mean, you have the tie-in with Kurt playing Peter’s dad in 2017’s ‘Guardians Vol. 2’. Plus he can do action-star/goofball better than almost anyone. ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ much? Kurt Russell ran so Chris Pratt could walk.

So these are only a few of our casting choices. To see who we picked for Groot, Rocket and others be sure to check out the latest episode of The CineBoiz Podcast anywhere you listen or watch below on the Korked Bats YouTube Page!

How could we possibly connect Hans Zimmer with Hugh Grant’s curt responses to Ashley Graham on the red, errr the champagne, carpet ahead of the Oscars last week? Watch our entire in-depth breakdown to find out how we connected the two together. Scrotum.

Today is a very important day for us here at Korked Bats. It’s the day where we take some time to honor the absolute legend that is Brendan Fraser. Now I know that you’re probably thinking, “Big deal, everyone is all about Brendan Fraser cuz he’s popular right now.”

To that, I kindly reply, f**k-off.

Brendan Fraser has been a core pillar of Korked Bats for many years. Not in a cute, ironic, “lets be funny cuz he’s irrelevant way” either. We genuinely are fans. Have you seen this post from Austin two years ago ranking Brendan Fraser’s top 10 movies? How about this one Austin wrote a few months earlier relaying his excitement that Brendan had been cast in a Soderbergh movie?

The point is, we CARE. No one was talking about Brendan Fraser two years ago except us.

It’s like how nowadays I get called a fair-weather fan because I root for the Chiefs. I implore you to go back and watch EVERY SINGLE GAME of the Chiefs 2012 season like I did and call me a fair-weather fan then. We’ve weathered the storm waiting for a Brendan-assaince and now it’s finally upon us.

With today being his birthday, we thought we would list out our Top-6 Favorite Things about the American-Canadian Film-GAWD that is Brendan James Fraser.

6. The Mummy

Ok look, I know it’s more of movie than it is a character trait…but it’s a f**king GOOD movie. At the time, Brendan Fraser was like Indiana Jones for a new generation. It’s extremely fun, and he’s absolutely fantastic in it. Brendan recently stated that he would be interested in returning to the franchise so here’s to hoping all of our dreams come true.

5. This Photo of Him Playing Nintendo Switch During a Zoom Call

He’s just like us! Admit it, how many times during COVID where you on your phone or online shopping during a work zoom? If you say never you’re a liar. Here is Brendan, probably running through a few quick matches of Super Smash Bros. before an interview. You can’t get mad at him for that.

4. The Man Has Sacrificed His Body to Entertain Us

You may have noticed as of late the Brendan looks very different than what we were used to seeing a few decades ago. One would think it’s just a classic case of a washed-up actor letting himself go. Again, kindly f**k-off. Brendan’s multi-year hiatus from the spotlight had a lot to do from recovering from multiple surgeries. Surgeries that were needed for the countless injuries Brendan sustained while being an action-star. He’s had various back and knee surgeries as well as procedures to repair his vocal chords. You should be grateful that he still continues to want to entertain us after all he’s been through.

3. The Man Looks Better in a Cowboy Hat Than Just About Any Other Human Being

I think the picture says enough.

2. He Sticks To His Guns

During the ‘Me Too’ movement, many actresses came forward sharing stories of sexual misconduct and harassment by powerful men in Hollywood. This however was not just limited to female, but also male victims including Brendan. In 2003, Brendan alleges that he was assaulted by then HFPA President Philip Berk and was subsequently black-listed from Hollywood. Now that he is likely to get a Golden Globe nomination for his role in ‘The Whale’ he has stated he will not attend the ceremony (which is the HFPA awards show). Brendan Fraser, unlike most of those godless-celebs, is no hypocrite.

1. The Man Can Act

Brendan Fraser has given us so many memorable performances over the years, and he has incredible range. That is tragically overlooked. From comedy-star to action-hero to dramatic-auteur, he really is GREAT at what he does. Be sure to check out our list of the Top-10 Brendan Fraser films when you get the chance and re-acquaint yourself.

When it’s all said and done, this Brendan Fraser birthday seems a bit sweeter than the others because of the love he’s getting from critics and movie-goers alike. Make sure you do him and us a favor and go see ‘The Whale’ when it releases this Friday December 9th in theaters.

Happy Birthday Brendan!!! – Your Korked Bats Family.
