*sigh*

What an exhausting and emotional overtime game. A game that felt like a playoff in the sense that it was the last hope the Titans had to potentially have any shot at the playoffs. Am I insane for even typing that? Certainly. But I’m also insane for being a Titans fan. Because every week I watch the same team and expect different results. This video should help convey my immediate reaction after the game.

We Now Know The Definitive Reason Why The Titans Lost To The Colts https://korkedbats.com/we-now-know-the-definitive-reason-why-the-titans-lost-to-the-colts/ Tue, 10 Oct 2023 16:19:23 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=32990 The post We Now Know The Definitive Reason Why The Titans Lost To The Colts appeared first on Korked Bats.

The Titans lost to the Colts on Sunday. Many people want to pin this loss on Kristian Fulton’s inability to stop a nosebleed, some may pin it on Tim Kelly’s offense being inept whenever they cross their opponent’s 20-yard-line, and yet, some will try and pin it on Ryan Tannehill because, well, he breathed. But we’re here to tell you we’ve unearhed the reason the Titans lost. And it’s none of the above. Except maybe Kristian Fulton. The main reason the Titans lost didn’t even play a minute on the field (at least we don’t think so, you can never tell with the Colts’ roster construction over the last few years).

Now we know why Irsay decided to open the roof at Lucas Oil this past Sunday. You can’t contain an anthem this beautiful. Plus, those notes would’ve shattered their glass ceiling. If he was on The Voice, he would’ve had every judge’s chair spun around before he hit the second syllable of “TI-TANS!” In fact, I went into that song as a Titans fan, but now? Giddy up! I’m painting horseshoes on my cheeks as we speak. LET THE WORLD HEAR US NOW! It’s bad enough the Colts beat the Titans at football, but now Indianapolis is beating Nashville at it’s own game: music. I mean, how can the Titans overcome something like this absolute savagery? And with vocals like that?!

From the double thumbs up out the gate…

…to the self-hug.

The Titans were frankly D.O.A. the second this TikTok dropped. Step aside Mariah Carey, because this dude with the vocal renderings of William Hung and a garbage disposal is here to will his team to victory. This is our team! Go Colts! WE LOVE THEM!

Are Madden Esports Players The Next NFL Coaches? https://korkedbats.com/are-madden-esports-players-the-next-nfl-coaches/ Tue, 08 Nov 2022 19:00:00 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=31790 The post Are Madden Esports Players The Next NFL Coaches? appeared first on Korked Bats.

By hiring Jeff Saturday as their Interim Head Coach, the Indianapolis Colts have proved an old saying true, “it’s all about who you know.” Saturday had a tremendous NFL career, spending 13 years in Indy with the Colts which included a Super Bowl victory, five Pro Bowls, and four All-Team selections. He went on to make the Pro Bowl playing for the Green Bay Packers. Off the field, Saturday had a ton of charisma (the dude is a hunk!) and immediately landed a broadcasting job with ESPN. The guy knows football, there’s no doubt there.

The concern with the hire, in my opinion and in the eyes of many, is a lack of coaching experience. Okay, let me be more specific. A lack of professional coaching experience. He was a High School coach in Georgia for a few years. However, he’s never worked as a coordinator. Never as an assistant, and certainly never worked as a head ball coach in the NFL, or college football, for that matter. However, this concern over his experience, or lack there of, isn’t shared by everyone. In fact, the Colts owner, Jim Irsay, said that Saturday’s lack of experience is a reason he got the job? It’s a good thing?

That wasn’t the only wild quote to come from Irsay during the press conference. Clearly, food was on his mind, as he attempted to make an analogy comparing building a football team and making sausage. Irsay said, “I don’t know how to make sausage. I don’t know what goes into sausage. But, I do know how to build a football team.” It didn’t make much sense, to be honest. It sounded more like the scene in Tommy Boy where Tommy is trying to use his dad’s quote about the butcher but for lack of a better term totally butchers it.

The only thing that makes less sense than the sausage comparison, has to be the hire. How on earth can you try to talk yourself into a lack of experience being a good thing? No habits mean no bad habits? No experience means he’s never lost a game? Now, I can’t blame Irsay and company for firing Frank Reich. It was time. You can’t do a merry-go-round of quarterbacks changing every year and expect to have success. You need some sort of consistency. It wasn’t a good look, both on paper and on the field. The problem was it’s not like there was nobody else to turn to. Irsay said he was the best available, but there’s no way that’s true. There are better options (way better options) already on the payroll. John Fox is a senior defensive assistant. He has tons of head coaching experience, including a Super Bowl appearance. Gus Bradley has been an NFL head coach, he’s currently the Defensive Coordinator. You didn’t have to look very far to find candidates for the Interim job, you didn’t have to look outside the building!

It’s clearly just the hiring of a buddy. There couldn’t have been a real process behind this hire. I’m sure Jeff is a great leader, but there’s a little more that goes into being a Head Coach in the NFL. If coaching experience doesn’t matter and it’s all about your passion and knowledge of the game and the X’s and O’s, and your gut…then could we end up seeing professional Madden players be NFL head coaches? Why not? They arguably know the game just as well as someone who played the game themselves. They are likely experts on game management, something we see current NFL coaches fumble every week. Game management is a crucial part of being an NFL head coach, you have to know when to use your timeouts and when not to use them. You need to know how much time you have to run certain plays. Then decisions like when to go for it on 4th down, and when to go for a two-point conversion, the best Madden players in the world know how to manage the game. The understand situational football. They can read defenses and develop schemes. I could see a team exploring this option one day, as crazy as it sounds.

The unexpected hiring of Jeff Saturday isn’t the only example of an organization looking to hire a Head Coach with no experience. The Houston Texans were reportedly interested in hiring Josh McCown who also has no coaching experience, but has a relationship with the higher ups in the organization. Those are just two examples that we know of, I’m sure it happens much more often than the public knows. I say a team should go for it. Why not? The best Madden player in the entire world has to know what they’re doing. I saw a movie once where a kid developed a wicked fastball after a freak injury, and he went on to play for the Chicago Cubs and even won Rookie of the Year. Would this be more crazy than that happening? I encourage NFL teams to make the leap and reap the benefits on your way to the Super Bowl.

Josh Allen’s Boo Boo, Frank Reich, & The Titans Loss – Here Are My Monday Thoughts & Notes https://korkedbats.com/josh-allens-boo-boo-frank-reich-the-titans-loss-here-are-my-monday-thoughts-notes/ Tue, 08 Nov 2022 00:38:43 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=31777 The post Josh Allen’s Boo Boo, Frank Reich, & The Titans Loss – Here Are My Monday Thoughts & Notes appeared first on Korked Bats.

Here are some random thoughts I’ve had today…

‣ We’ll be throwing up a Cuba Gooding Jr. GIF this week, because that Titans loss was rough, especially considering I went into the game expecting it to be a Bills game part deux, but after 3 quarters with the Titans leading, I was roped in. Somehow while missing their starting quarterback (who is 2-1 with a 94 QB rating against the Chiefs as a Titan), 2/3 of the starting wide receiver corps, and their second-best defensive back, the Titans still nearly won in overtime against the best offense in football. In fact, in their last two meetings, Derrick Henry has as many touchdown passes as Patrick Mahomes. That’s not a knock at Mahomes, that’s a damn flex on that Vrabel-led defense. Also, enjoy defensive coordinator Shane Bowen now, Titans fans. He’ll be head coaching elsewhere in the league next season. And we all know what it’s like to lose a talented coordinator to a head coaching vacancy. *gives side eye to Todd Downing*

‣ Also, this happened:

Imagine stopping someone in a bathroom to drop that nugget on someone. Why do I constantly have AWKWARD MOMENTS WITH TITANS FANS IN BATHROOMS?!

‣ Star Wars has announced the cast for their new series The Acolyte.

I used to consider myself a fairly big Star Wars fan, but the deeper we get into this universe, the more lost I am. Also, who is naming these series? Feels like they’re just making up words now. The Acolyte? What’s the next Star Wars series going to be? The Banydon? Maybe The Roshtonel? The Acolyte sounds like a medication for elderly people you’d see commercials for on TV. “Talk to your doctor about Acolyte today.”

‣ I still think it’s too early for Christmas music. Let Thanksgiving breathe.

‣ That was pass interference by the Dolphins on Chase Claypool late in the Bears game.

‣ But hey, at least Justin Fields.

‣ Josh Allen could be injured. Injured bad. (Shout out the “kicked in the penis” kid.) That sucks for the NFL. Josh Allen is fun to watch (mostly when he’s not beating your team 41-7), but I will never feel sorry for any NFL team for injuries after watching the Titans set a record for the most injured players in NFL history last season. Sorry, not sorry. (But also, I’m kinda sorry.)

‣ AJ Brown sure is turning heel and being a dick to a franchise that was there for him through some rough trials. It’s really a shame. No need to piss on the Titans’ wide receiver-less grave.

‣ Dave Denholm is the radio voice of LAFC. I love the guy. Super fun and funny and incredibly great at what he does. Enjoy his winning call of the freaking MLS Cup.

‣ Frank Reich is known for quarterbacking the biggest comeback in NFL history and now known for coaching the biggest fallback in NFL history. Not sure what happened to the Colts, but man is it fascinating to watch. Like a wreck on the side of the interstate. I don’t want to gawk too much, because it could very easily happen to me, but man is it wild to witness.

‣ In case Elon Musk is reading this, this website does contain some **PARODY.**

‣ Watched M. Knight Shyamalan’s OLD over the weekend. To me, M. Knight is the Marcus Mariota of directors. After early success in his career, I want for him so bad to be great again, but he keeps falling flat. But I will never stop rooting for him to find the greatness he once had.

The Pat McAfee Curse Is Real: The Titans Have Owned The Colts Since The Punter/Media Mogul Ripped Them On Lower Broad https://korkedbats.com/the-pat-mcafee-curse-is-real-the-titans-have-owned-the-colts-since-the-punter-media-mogul-ripped-them-on-lower-broad/ Mon, 24 Oct 2022 03:39:51 +0000 https://korkedbats.com/?p=31533 The post The Pat McAfee Curse Is Real: The Titans Have Owned The Colts Since The Punter/Media Mogul Ripped Them On Lower Broad appeared first on Korked Bats.

Remember when Pat McAfee ripped the beating hearts out of the chests of every living Titans fan on national TV during the 2019 NFL Draft directly on Lower Broad in downtown Nashville, Tennessee? McAfee was Mola Ram and his “Om Namah Shivaya” was just a soliloquy about how the Colts owned the Titans.

And look, make no mistake about it. At that time, the Colts did, in fact, own the Titans. Amy Adams Strunk wasn’t the Titans’ mom. Andrew Luck was the Titans’ daddy. It was a nightmare anytime those horseshoe helmets lined up opposite the two-toned blue. Seriously, the Colts were more of a nightmare to the Titans during the Andrew Luck era than the Peyton Manning era. Luck, at one point, ripped off TEN STRAIGHT against the Titans. It was bad. Now, sure, some of that was during an era of really lousy Titans football which saw them starting Zach Mettenberger at quarterback. On purpose! But even despite that, beating a team ten straight times in the NFL is pure, 100% unfiltered domination. There’s no other way to spin it. So McAfee was justified in his nationally televised Comedy Central Roast of Nashville.

However…

Since those words left his mouth on that stage in the middle of the street on Lower Broad, something changed. It was as if McAfee’s public grilling of the Titans franchise was a way of verbally signing the ownership of this rivalry back into the hands of the Titans. Sure, most of it started when Andrew Luck unexpectantly announced his retirement prior to the 2019 season, but it hasn’t gotten any better since. Not with Jacoby Brissett, not with Carson Wentz, and certainly not with Matt Ryan. And if we’re being honest, it probably won’t get any better next year when the Colts inevitably sign Ben Roethlisberger or the year after when they sign Mitch Trubisky. Sorry, Colts fans, but Curtis Painter ain’t walkin’ through that door. And with each passing year, it just makes Pat’s 5-minute set he was probably workshopping for the Laugh Factory seem more and more dated. Like the easiest content for Freezing Cold Takes. Every. Single. Season.

And don’t get it twisted, I love Pat McAfee. He’s the perfect mix of hilarity, raw talent, entertainment, and self-awareness. He’s parlayed his incredibly punting career into an even better media career. The dude gets it……… But he’s also a Colt. So I can’t love him too much.

And it deserves to be pointed out… since Pat McAfee went on his rant:

  • Titans are 6-2 against the Colts
  • Titans have won 5 straight against the Colts
  • Titans have won 2 straight division titles
  • Titans have made 3 straight playoff appearances (including one AFC Championship appearance)
  • Colts have made the playoffs once (losing in the WIld Card round, giving the Bills their first playoff win in a quarter of a century)

Look, is it too soon to call this thing s a curse? Maybe. But until it gets proven that it’s not one, we’re calling it The Pat McAfee Curse™.
