Korked Bats now has an intern. Is he getting paid? Of course not. Is he earning college credit? Nope. Do we even have an intern program? Not at all. So why is he doing it? We don’t know. But we’re not asking any questions, we’re just rolling with it. The only problem is we have no idea what to do with him. He’s proficient in Microsoft Office programs, but we never use any Office programs. We make dumb videos about Derrick Henry and going to Cubs games in outrageous jackets.

And can you believe he goes to Stanford?! So naturally, he’s a good kid and a go-getter, for sure. We just need ideas as to what we make this kid do? When I initially asked on social, some people suggested making him get one of every item off the McDonald’s menu and make him eat it. We’d make him get us coffee, but he’s in Birmingham, and the rest of us are in Chicago, Austin, Nashville, etc. Pretty sure the coffee would be cold by the time it arrived. Since he loves to put the ball in the hoop, some suggested we make him film himself playing basketball, so we can see for ourselves and/or laugh at his white boy jump shot. Who knows? We just want you to help us come up with something for him to do. We don’t want him sitting around all summer twiddling his thumbs. We already know how lazy this next generation already is (as a member of the generation before his, I have to be critical of his generation’s laziness whether there be actual truth to it or not).

That’s what happened the other day. We went to the site and saw that stupid 8-bit piece of paper with his dumbass Tobey Maguire Spiderman 3 looking haircut. Screw you, dude! I hope I never see your sorry-lookin’ face ever again because you suck ass!

Apparently, we had some hosting issues, although we’d like to somehow blame this on Dana White. Or at very least, Randy Johnson, but that mulleted doofus would probably claim “that’s not me.”

But after a very frustrating 50 hours, our website is live again. Obviously. Otherwise you wouldn’t even be able to read this right now. So feel free to set it as your homepage again and visit often. If you want. Your call.

I’ll admit it. Surpassing 1,000 followers isn’t anything special. There are countless ugly influencers who have 1,000 followers on IG. But for us, a dumb sports blog that had their account taken last May, it’s somewhat of a benchmark. We’ve surpassed 4-digits in our follower count which is not too shabby for an account we had to start over from scratch back on September 2nd. Why? Because Dana White can’t unclench his butt cheeks and sends minions out to destroy Instagram accounts of blogs who have the audacity to share :15 seconds of a fight (that had already concluded, mind you) to try and promote the UFC brand.

It was an absolute gut punch. All of our followers, content and hard work were just eliminated. All because Dana White has a 14-foot pole jammed up his ass. It’s funny how a niche sport such as mixed martial arts harvests the internet looking to take down any account that just so happens to post a clip of their sport, while the most popular sports in the world like the NBA, NFL and MLB have no problem if you share their highlights. They used to, sure, but then they realized it’s free advertising. It’s free marketing. So they stopped flagging accounts for sharing their highlights. Not UFC, though. Those Affliction shirt-wearing hardos still come after accounts and destroy them and all their hard work on a one-strike basis. So screw UFC forever.

After an entire summer of trying to get the account back, we decided to just go ahead and start over from scratch. We did. And now here we are less than 5 months later with a solid thousand followers. Thanks to all of you who do follow us on Instagram, for helping us get back on our feet. To those who don’t, well, what the hell are you doing with your life? If you wanna be a cool kid, you gotta follow Korked Bats.

It’s been a good year for this little blog. It’s also been a wild year. From launching the T-Rav Tasters, to moving our home base to Chicago, to starting a new gig, to all the fun The Cineboiz have had with consistent growth and experimentation with live streams, to getting blocked by Randy Johnson, to getting our Instagram account deactivated by the UFC which lost all of our followers and content, to having to start an entirely new IG account from scratch, to Jason Kidd’s ridiculously large collar, to all things Derrick Henry (including his injury), to now a new year.

Thanks to all of you cool kids who have helped us out along the way. Whether you liked, shared, or even just consumed our content, you helped us grow and we appreciate you. Hopefully, we made you laugh or kept you entertained. We’re looking forward to another big year in 2022, so please, continue the support so you can come along for the ride.

A lot of people ask us if we got our name from this moment. Actually, no. The origin of this blog’s name was entirely separate from this, but does that mean we don’t still celebrate it? Of course not. We’re all in on this day. In fact, we love people talking about corked bats. Mainly because you never know if they’re talking about Korked Bats or not. Sammy claims he grabbed the wrong bat, and accidentally grabbed his batting practice bat – which I will admit was better than his “I don’t speak English” excuse when testifying in front of congress – but let’s be real, the man corked his bat. Which, again, I don’t have a problem with. If you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t tryin’, right? Plus, I love Sammy. I was #TeamSammy in the ’98 home run chase once #TeamGriffey and his all-natural arms couldn’t keep pace with those personified G.I. Joe’s McGwire and Sosa. So Sammy, cork (or kork) away! Plus, he would’ve gotten away with it if it weren’t for you pesky umpires, too!

And if you’re wondering which of the Neapolitan Sammy Sosa’s this was, it was chocolate. Although, Strawberry Sosa might be my personal favorite.
